2024 Term 2 Week 10
Principal Report
Welcome to the last week of Term 2! It has been an action-packed term and I know students and teachers are ready for the holidays. They have worked extremely hard over the term engaging in the learning process, undertaking excursions, showing pride at many sporting events, running many fundraisers and much, much more. Each term, I become even more proud of the people that our students are growing into and their high level of engagement in learning.
Staffing Update
We are excited to announce the employment of our new school officer, Brodie Bourke, who will begin in the first week of Term 3. We look forward to welcoming Brodie into our school community.
We have begun staffing intention discussions for 2025 and we will share next term once confirmed.
Pre-Prep Transitions
To support the Pre-Prep students who will be beginning Prep in 2025, we have begun the transition to school process. The first step in this process, is for the Kindy students to become familiar with key staff members and the Prep students from Sacred Heart. I had the pleasure of visiting the Kindy this week to meet the students and read a story all about school.
We are looking forward to more visits next term and the Kindy visiting Sacred Heart for a Teddy Bears Picnic next term.
If you have a child born between 1st July 2019 and 30th June 2020, they are eligible for Prep 2025. Visit our school website to complete an online enrolment application.
Building Projects
As you would have noticed, our school fencing project has commenced around the school grounds. The front part of the fence including the entrance will be completed over these coming school holidays.
We are very excited for our classrooms and assembly hall refurb and are just waiting on hearing back from our building contractor for a confirmation start date. It will most likely be some time during Term 3. We will keep you updated as things progress.
Report Cards
Semester 1 report cards will be available to be picked up on the last day of term, Friday 21st June. Those that are not picked up will be posted to families.
I hope everyone has a restful and safe break.

Woo Hoo Week 10!
The light at the end of the tunnel for Term 2 is closer than ever now. It has been a whirlwind of fun, with huge learning challenges and formalised testing and assessments. I am incredibly proud of each and every member of Prep and that is a testament to all of you wonderful caregivers; mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and everyone in between. The Prep students have shown such great persistence, courage and curiosity towards their learning. Their growth has been incredible to see!
In English, their main assessment pieces have blown me away. They truly excelled with exploring a storybook’s relevance to their own lives in Cunnamulla. In relation to phonics, we have now completed the letter sound correspondence for: a, m, s, t, p, i, n, f, m, o, d, c, u and g. What a huge achievement this term, they have powered through learning new concepts! Thank you so much to the parents and caregivers have been involved with the homework this term, as I can already see the benefits from further practice. We have very fun activities planned for the rest of term, as we consolidate the knowledge we have acquired on the past two terms.
I truly hope you have a happy and healthy break, as you are more than deserving of a rest. I look forward to seeing you all back in Term 3!

Year 1
Welcome to Week 10!
The Year 1’s have been working very hard over the last couple of weeks to get all their assessment done.
The students have achieved so much in Maths, I thought it was time to challenge them. Over the past fortnight we have begun engaging in 3 Act Tasks, which offer the students the opportunity to solve simple maths problems using mathematical modelling and communicate their answer. We will be continuing this process next term and I can’t wait to see the growth in their ability to share their thinking process!
We have completed all work now and the students are having some well deserved “free learning”.
Some of the free learning we have done includes: wordsearches using sounds they have learnt this term, reading books of interest to the students, free writing practicing our sentence writing and spelling, Reading Eggs and Mathseeds, as well as exploring maps we found in the cupboard while cleaning up the room. I do have to say, the students have been very interested in the different countries around the world.
I am very proud of thr growth and achievement of all students in the classroom this term and I can’t wait to see how Term 3 goes!
Have a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday!

Year 2
Wow! Term 2 has come to an end, what an exciting and busy term it has been.
Year 2 has worked incredibly hard over the last few weeks of this term completing many assessments. We want to say how proud and impressed we are with their determination, persistence, effort and courage when completing their assessment tasks. A BIG congratulations to all our Year 2’s for the amazing growth we have seen in all areas of learning this term.
We have some fun activities left for the end of term and we are excited to continue our learning while celebrating our success for working hard to grow in our learning.
We know their brains must feel overwhelmed and ready for a nice holiday to rest and recharge.
Have a happy and safe holiday break and we look forward to seeing everyone recharged and ready for learning in Term 3.

Happy Week 10! We have made it to the end of another fast-paced, jam packed, exciting term! The students have worked so incredibly hard this term and should be extremely proud of their efforts. This week we have spent finalizing some assessment pieces and having some well deserved fun and rest!
As part of the students connected unit assessment pieces, they were tasked with selecting a habitat and creating an interactive presentation using Sphero. These are all completed now and it has been very interesting seeing the information and looking at the different codes that the students have used to present their information.
In English, the students have completed their narrative pieces about Fire. The students used a variety of descriptive language features, compound sentences, and building tension to draw the reader in. Their stories were very interesting and they should be congratulated on her efforts!
In conclusion, some final words from our students
‘I enjoyed Miss Bretherton being my teacher, and Mathletics!’ – Clive
‘I enjoyed spending time with my classmates’ – Izzy
‘I enjoyed all the learning we have done’ – Charvee
‘I enjoyed all the sport and class games we played’ – Deegan
‘I enjoyed Crazy Hair Day!’ – Jerry
‘I enjoyed learning to use the Sphero's – Emmett
‘I enjoyed technology and learning about Sphero’ – Noah
‘I enjoyed learning about the water cycle’ – Lake
Thank you all for all your hard efforts this term! It has been a very enjoyable and memorable term. I wish you all a happy, safe and relaxing holiday and we will see you again next term!

Year 5/6
As we wrap up this term, I am thrilled to share with you the incredible journey our 5/6 students have embarked upon over the past fortnight. From first aid procedures to shelter design, from math challenges to exciting excursions, it has been a whirlwind of learning and growth.
The students delved into the world of first aid, honing their skills and understanding how to respond in emergencies. Simultaneously, they explored safe fire management and shelter construction ideas. We explored various shelter types, including debris shelters, A-frames, lean-tos, and tarp shelters. In design technologies, the students collaborated to create mini models of their shelters, which were then scaled up on the survival expedition.
In mathematics, the students practiced converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time. They also deciphered timetables and learnt to calculate elapsed time. This mini time unit culminated in the development of timetables for the survival expedition.
Week 8 was marked by our eagerly anticipated Bowra excursion. The students immersed themselves in learning about native plants, animals, and adaptations. They explored the intricate symbiotic relationships within ecosystems and gained insights into how Aboriginal peoples adapted their lifestyles to harmonize with the land. A heartfelt thank you to Dan and the incredible Bowra team for making this excursion possible.
And finally, last Tuesday, the moment we’ve all been waiting for—the survival expedition! Armed with their newfound skills, the students tackled challenges throughout the day. From constructing shelters to fire management, they demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and creativity. I won’t say to much more as the pictures speak for themselves. Trust me when I say it was well worth the anticipation!
We have had a lovely term that has absolutely flown by. I look forward to seeing what next term will bring. Happy Holidays!

Uniform Policy
The school uniform represents the pride we have for our children and our school. A smart, neat and user-friendly uniform encourages the children to take pride in their appearance and in the school. The school uniform requirements:
Hats: Our school policy is ‘NO HAT – NO PLAY’. A green school hat must be worn and can be purchased form the office.
Jewellery: The only jewellery allowed is one set of fine studs or sleepers, a chain with some form of religious significance and watches.
Nail Polish: Nail polish is not to be worn.
Hair: Children’s hair must be neat and tidy. If hair is below the collar it needs to be tied back with appropriate white or green accessories. It is expected that hairstyles reflect the code of dress required by the school. The colouring of hair and unusual hairstyles are not acceptable.
Tuition Fees
Term 2 Fees are now overdue, please finalise these by the end of the Term. At Sacred Heart, we have several payment options for your convenience: Cash, Cheque, ETPOS, Direct Debit and Centrepay. For further details on these payment options please see the school office.
Student Protection
At Sacred Heart the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All children should grow up free of violence or exploitation and be able to learn in a safe and supported environment. Schools have a number of specific child protection reporting obligations that are detailed in our Student Protection Processes and Guidelines.
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at Sacred Heart Primary School student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.
If a student wants to talk to someone about harm, abuse or inappropriate behaviour toward themselves or others, they can speak to a trusted staff member or one of our School Student Protection Contacts (SSPCs). The SSPCs receive additional training and are identified in the student protection posters displayed around the school.
Summary documents have been developed for parents and caregivers about our student protection obligations and our broader strategy for maintaining safe school environments.
