2025 Term 4 Week 2
Principal's Report
Term 4 is upon us already and we are very grateful that this year our building projects are all happening outside and we are not getting ready to move a whole school again! As you may have noticed, our buildings are starting to take shape and are looking amazing. We don’t have an exact completion date yet, but we are definitely getting closer. The staffing process for 2026 has begun and I am extremely excited to announce that Mrs Rachel Coggan will be joining our staff next year in the APMI (Assistant Principal Mission and Identity) role. Mrs Coggan is a very experienced teacher and school leader; she has recently spent the past few years working in the TCS office as an Education Officer. Mrs Coggan will bring a wealth of experience and curriculum knowledge which will greatly benefit our school. She is also bringing along her husband Charlie who has accepted the position of Guidance Officer for the 3 western schools (Cunnamulla, Quilpie and Charleville). We will benefit from having Mr Coggan onsite as our school counsellor for one day a week starting next year. It will be great for our students to be able to access this service in person, rather than depending on technology to make it happen.
We are very grateful that our entire teaching staff will be remaining in 2026. At this point in time, we have not decided upon classes/teachers, only securing that the same class structure will remain. Once decisions have been made, the school community will be advised. If this becomes a point of discussion in the community, I encourage parents to remind others that all teachers at our school are very capable, hardworking and dedicated staff members. I encourage all families to choose a school based on the alignment with their values and the educational needs of their child. In a nutshell, our school’s values (the Habits of the Heart and Mind) encourage students to be both good people and good learners!
Mr Savage will be out to visit our school in a couple of weeks. He will spend time with our students and teachers. He will also look at our Annual Action plan for 2026 and assist with planning the school’s priorities for next year. This document is already starting to take shape with learning as the focal point. Next year our school will become part of the MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support) project run by TCS. This will help us further provide a range of supports to all students in our school and we are very excited to be a part of this.

Welcome back to Term 4! We are excited to continue our learning journey and make this term full of fun, and growth. This term in science, we will explore how people and objects move, investigating different ways things can move and how movement works in our everyday world. In English, we will focus on sentence writing, learning what makes a complete sentence, including capital letters, punctuation, and expressing ideas clearly. In Mathematics, we will continue developing number recognition and counting skills to at least 20, as well as a strong focus on addition and subtraction, shape and capacity. In Religion, we will learn about the story of Christmas and the birth of Jesus, reflecting on its meaning and significance. We are looking forward to a term full of learning, curiosity, and creativity!
Year 1 with Miss Charlton
Welcome back for the final term of 2025! We began swimming lessons this fortnight which the students really enjoyed and was a welcome respite from the heat. In English we will be exploring how authors make their texts engaging using features like rhyme, rhythm and alliteration. Maths sees us continuing our learning of addition and subtraction and moving into using mathematical modelling to solve real world problems. In Science we will be exploring how push and pull affect the movement of objects and how the properties of materials affect the motion of objects. Our Religion unit focuses on Mary, Mother of Jesus and why she is important to us as believers. We are looking forward to a term full of learning and engaging experiences.
Year 2 with Mr Smith
Welcome back to Term 4! We’re kicking things off in English by exploring a rich collection of Dreaming stories, which will lead us into our persuasive writing unit. In Mathematics, we’ll be diving into multiplication and strengthening our number skills with a focus on money. Science will take us on a journey through space as we investigate patterns in the sky, followed by an exciting look at how materials change. In Religion, we’ll reflect on the story of Abraham and Sarah and the covenant they made with God.

Year 3/4 with Miss Carter
Welcome to Term 4! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable holiday break. This term is shaping up to be an exciting one! In English, we’ll be diving into the world of poetry, exploring rhythm, rhyme, and creative expression. In Math, we’ll cover a range of topics, starting with estimation and problem solving to sharpen our critical thinking skills. Our science unit will focus on matters and materials, where we’ll investigate the properties and uses of different substances. In Religion, we’ll be learning about Jesus the Messiah and his significance. Plus, we’re thrilled to be starting swimming lessons every Friday, a great way to stay active and have fun! Here’s to a fantastic final term of the year!
Year 5/6 with Miss Walker
This fortnight we have hit the ground running. Jumping straight into science, we are exploring states of matter and defining the differences between solid, liquids and gases. The students enthusiastically made Oobleck (a substance that is a liquid and solid) in science. In English, we have moved away from prefix and suffixes as our spelling focuses, and we are delving into Latin and Greek roots to support our spelling. As well as this, our writing focus this term is on Poetry.

Student Protection
At Sacred Heart the safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority. All children should grow up free of violence or exploitation and be able to learn in a safe and supported environment. Schools have a number of specific child protection reporting obligations that are detailed in our Student Protection Processes and Guidelines.
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at Sacred Heart Primary School student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.
If a student wants to talk to someone about harm, abuse or inappropriate behaviour toward themselves or others, they can speak to a trusted staff member or one of our School Student Protection Contacts (SSPCs). The SSPCs receive additional training and are identified in the student protection posters displayed around the school.
Summary documents have been developed for parents and caregivers about our student protection obligations and our broader strategy for maintaining safe school environments.
Further information on all of the above topics can be found on the Toowoomba Catholic Schools website at the link below:
